Janice G. Smith
Professor of Chemistry

A.B., 1973, Cornell University
A.M., 1975, Harvard University
Ph.D., 1978, Harvard University
NSF Postdoctoral Fellow, Harvard University, 1978-1979

For 21 years, Jan Smith was a Professor of Chemistry at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, where she taught organic chemistry and maintained a research program in organic synthesis. After spending two sabbaticals at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the most recent in 1997-1998, she decided to permanently move to Hawaii, where she continues to teach organic chemistry. She also currently spends her professional life writing a sophomore level organic chemistry text.
